Today’s Church Service

February 27th, 2005 by vermilk

Today’s service was a real blessing for me. I helped baptize a new Christian in our Church.

The service started with lots of music, a few hymns and then a group of guys from surrounding churchs sang bluegrass gospel music. I’m not a big bluegrass fan, but I did enjoy hearing the music today. After the music our pastor presented a short message. After the message and invitation we headed for the baptismal. The event brought back memories of my own salvation and baptism. I am so blessed! As my good friend is fond of saying: “God is so good”.

After church we headed out to eat at the local Mexican food restaurant and then on to the veterans Center to have church service for them. My son drew pictures and gave them to several of the vets. He has a very sweet giving personality. I’m very proud of my children.

What a good day it has been!

Origami – Tiny Cranes

February 22nd, 2005 by vermilk

I really like Origami and have folded a few animals and boxes for fun. However; I recently saw a show on HGTV’s “Crafters Coast to Coast” which featured Stacie Tamaki and her (origami) tiny cranes. She has truly taken her cranes to a new form of art. Her creations are beautiful. I liked them so much, I emailed her to tell her. She responded quickly and thanked me for my kind words. She is genuinely a nice lady. Thank you Stacie for your contribution to this fascinating art form.

To see some of her creations, go to her website: www.tinycranes.com . Be sure and check out her portfolio!

*Angels*

February 16th, 2005 by vermilk

I just finished tucking my children in bed.
Conversation as follows:

Daughter: Can Jesus be in two places at one time.
Me: Yes, he is omnipresent (trying to explain this concept to a 6yr old is an experience in itself.
Daughter: When I’m scared at night I imagine Jesus standing at the foot of my bed with his back to me protecting me.
Me: That’s good. Sometimes God sends angels to protect us.
Daughter: Are they invisible like God?
Me: Yes but not always. The Bible tells us to be good to all people because the next person we talk to could be an angel.
Daughter: (Eyes getting bigger and bigger) Daddy are you an angel?
Me: No, I’m just your daddy.

You Be My Good Boy

February 14th, 2005 by vermilk

These are some of the last words that I ever heard my step-grandpa say to me. Growing up, he made it a point to utter these words whenever we would part company. I have tried to carry on the tradition with my children. This morning I had the opportunity to be a proud parent and wonder if this words of wisdom were instrumental in the situation that I’m about to mention.

This morning my 4yr old son was discouraged on his way to school, so I tried to cheer him up. I reminded him that there is always something to focus on that can lift our spirits. I mentioned the toy dinosaurs in his pre-school room. He informed me that they had been removed from the room. Someone had stolen a few of them. He also told me that he had stopped another child from stealing some papers. He had told the kid to stop and then foiled his plan by telling a teacher. After the teacher thanked him, he said he didn’t know what to say. He told me that he was proud of himself for doing a good thing. He also told me that the teachers now check each kids pockets and backpacks for toys, etc… However; he told me that they don’t check his because he’s a good boy!

It’s moments like these that I cherish. It makes it all worthwhile.

Phone Call

February 9th, 2005 by vermilk

While at work yesterday the phone rang:

Me: Tech center, this is Kevin.

Caller (male voice): Really?

Me: Yeah, really.

Caller: What color socks are you wearing?

Me: (Hesitant) Blue, I think… Why? What color are you wearing?

Caller: I’m not wearing any.

Me: Ok. Who is this?

Caller: A secret admirer (keep in mind the caller is a man).

Me: This call is going down hill fast. Who is this?

Then I realized it was a friend of mine from Nebraska. Crazy guy.

Jingle From The Past

February 7th, 2005 by vermilk

My mom taught me this many moons ago:

One dark night in broad daylight, two dead men got up to fight.

Back to back they faced each other, pulled their swords and shot each other.

A deaf police man heard the noise and came to rescue the two dead boys.

Papaw and Mamaw

I have made a few edits using Photoshop. For instance: I removed most of the tree branch that was blocking Papaws body. I also removed the crease that ran through the middle of the photo. My plan is to continue to enhance this photo and repost.

More from the family photo album.
